Macchiaioli painters in San Godenzo
From 10th July to 29 August 2010
Giovanni Fattori, a painter from Livorno, lived in San Godenzo, in
Tuscany’s Apennine mountains exactly 130 years ago. He was staying with
a friend called Pierozzi and the Apennine town, so different from the
sunny landscapes of the Maremma region, inspired the artist, who
painted the well-known work Mercato del bestiame a San Godenzo. The
painting is on display at Palazzo Pitti’s Modern Art Gallery in
Florence.
Now in the leafy town of Castagno d’Andrea, paintings of Fattori and
other Macchiaioli painters are on display from 10th July at the Enrica
Rainetti Cultural Centre.
The
exhibition is called Life of a collection, a collection of life and
presents 77 works. The exhibition begins with works that refer to
Romantic and academic painting and then introduces the real Fattori and
his most famous canvases. The works of other leading figures are also
on display: Silvestro Lega, Telemaco Signorini, Cristiano Banti,
Odoardo Borrani, Vincenzo Cabianca and others.
The exhibition is the first part of a greater project that in 2011
will feature important works of Italian 20th century artists. These
were included in the impressive collection, which went missing
following the death of the owner.
